Community support is very important in ensuring the sustainability of geothermal development activities. GRC helps provide correct and balanced information regarding geothermal energy, its benefit to the environment and its importance in elevating the prosperity of the community. GRC geoscientists and engineers have been involved in:

  • Producing guidelines for geothermal exploration and development
  • ocializing the Government plans of geothermal resource development
  • Geothermal general lectures for Indonesian youths
  • Providing technical assistance in geothermal exploration for Local Government staff and private sectors

    Geothermal is a heat energy from the Earth. In Indonesia and the countries in the Pacific Ring of Fire, the location of the geothermal resource is indicated by geothermal manifestations such as hot springs, fumaroles, and thermal grounds. In a high-temperature geothermal system there is heat transfer from a magmatic heat source to the reservoir rocks and the deeply infiltrating meteoric fluids. As parts of the Earth’s system, a geothermal resource can only be well located and characterized through an integrated Geoscientific studies. read more

    Welcome To Geothermal Research Center

    Geothermal Research Center (GRC) Faculty of Engineering UGM was established on 16th February 1995 by the Minister of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Indonesia. It was initiated through the Faculty of Engineering UGM and PERTAMINA joint research on heat and mass transfer in geothermal system (1993 – 1998) that involved the Departments of Geological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Physical Engineering.

    In responding to the challenge to cover a board spectrum of geothermal competence GRC activities involve the inter-faculty resource sharing, especially with the Geophysics Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

    The establishment of GRC has opened the gate to collaborations of both national and international scales, as well as capacity building of the UGM’s junior academic staff through their involvement in research activities and advancement of education at overseas leading universities. read more

    Geothermal Teaching

    The GRC activities trigger the development and improvement of geothermal teaching syllabi, as well as inclusion of geothermal topics in related papers at the involved departments.
